Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and local storage that route.wine (the “Service”) uses. For how we handle personal information generally, see our Privacy Policy.
The short version
route.wine uses one essential cookie for sign-in and local storage for your trip. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no third-party trackers.
Cookies we set
We set a single first-party cookie, and only when you sign in. It is strictly necessary for the Service to keep you signed in.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
rw_session | Keeps you signed in. Holds a signed session identifier. Set only when you sign in. HttpOnly. | 30 days | First-party, essential |
Local storage we use
We also use your browser’s local storage to keep your trip in progress and some interface state on your own device. Local storage is not sent to us automatically the way a cookie is; it stays in your browser.
| Key | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
pwl_trip | Stores the wineries in your trip cart so a trip in progress survives navigation and reloads. | Until you clear it or it is replaced |
pwl_session | A random identifier that ties your saved trips and booking-link clicks together for attribution. Not tied to your name or email. | Until you clear it |
What we do not use
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. We do not do cross-site tracking, and we do not sell or share your personal information.
Third-party requests
The Service loads map tiles from CARTO and OpenStreetMap and route geometry from a public OSRM server. Like any content delivery network, these requests expose your IP address to those services. Booking links you click take you to third-party sites and booking platforms that may set their own cookies under their own policies.
Consent
Because the rw_session cookie is strictly necessary to sign you in, it does not require consent. We show a short notice about our cookie and local-storage use so you know it is there.
How to clear it
You can clear the cookie and local storage at any time through your browser settings, which let you view and delete site data for route.wine. Signing out removes the rw_session cookie. Clearing site data for route.wine will also remove your in-progress trip stored in local storage.
